Jaimey Irwin

Peterborough, Canada

Jaimey was born in Peterborough, Canada and grew up in Lakefield, Ontario on Stoney Lake at his family's resort, The Irwin Inn.

He began riding at the young age of 6, and his competition career began by competing at the local fairs with his first horse. He later went on to do some eventing, and hunter jumper shows. It wasn't until Jaimey was 16 years of age that he decided to commit himself fully to Dressage. Jaimey was instructed in the early days by Anne Harris and Sue Ramsey who were both very fundamental in his basic training.

Jaimey competed his event horse, Sunday Matinee in some Dressage classes and became quite successful with the Thoroughbred gelding, winning the Ontario Basic 4 Championship in 1997. He went on to become a working student for Canadian Olympian Tom Dvorak and competed at the Young Rider level very successfully with a mare named Pikarda.

Jaimey and Pikarda represented Canada at the prestigious North American Young Riders Championships in Chicago in 1999, where they just missed out on the bronze medal, finishing fourth overall. They were the highest placing Canadian combination and won the Dr. Brian Mills award the same year. Pikarda and Jaimey were long listed for the Canadian Dressage Team.

Jaimey has had extensive training in Germany with Holger Münstermann, Christilot Boylen and Udo Lange. He spent the winter of 2000 training at Holger Münstermann's facility in Werl, Germany. Jaimey purchased the talented gelding Waldano 20 from Holger and imported him to Canada in the Spring. Waldano and Jaimey won many Championships at the Advanced level, including Silver medals at the CAN AM challenge at Dressage at Devon. The duo was consistently short and long listed for the Canadian Dressage Team and had many top placings at International CDI competitions throughout Canada and the USA.

In 2001 Jaimey ventured back to Germany, yet this time to train with multiple Canadian Olympian, Christilot Boylen and her partner, Udo Lange. Jaimey spent the winter at their facility.

In 2002 he took a position as the Head rider in Luzern, Switzerland. He then returned to Holger Münstermann's stable and trained with him for almost one year.

In 2003 Jaimey competed a stallion named Jacardo at the Advanced level extremely successfully. The pair were short listed for the Canadian Dressage Team and were receiving many top placings in International competitions. Jaimey trained Jacardo to the Grand Prix level the next year and competed at CDI's throughout Canada and the USA successfully. They were long listed in 2004 at the Grand Prix level. Jaimey and Jacardo declared for the 2004 Athens Olympics.

In 2005 Jaimey competed Nero at the Advanced level becoming long listed for 2006. He had a top seven finish at the Blainville Freestyle evening that was televised on Global TV.

2006 Jaimey took part in the Grand Prix Quadrille at the Royal Winter Fair with Waldano in front of over 3,000 spectators.

Throughout the next few years Jaimey and his wife, Tina Busse-Irwin (whom he married in 2005), began their successful and growing Dressage Training and Sales facility, Stoney Lake Equestrian. Jaimey acquired many new mounts including Primo Sony, a horse that he competed up to the Intermediare 2 level, Fidelio, who was almost undefeated at every level up to Prix St George, White Socks and Dover. Both White Socks and Dover were long listed for the 2008 Dressage Team. Jaimey and Dover made their Grand Prix debut in Wellington Florida, receiving scores up to 69% in their first season. White Socks and Jaimey had won many Prix St George classes in Canada and Florida with up to 73%.

In 2007 Jaimey and Tina traveled to Wellington Florida and participated in the Grand Prix Quadrille, Challenge of the Americas. This was a large fundraiser for Breast Cancer research and the Canadian Team won this competition. Jaimey rode the mare, Taenzerin in this competition.

In 2008 Jaimey was the Ontario Grand Prix Champion with Dover. He was long listed with Dover at the Grand Prix level, and White Socks at the Advanced level. Jaimey and Dover were declared for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Jaimey and Dover are long listed at the Grand Prix level for 2009 and 2010. They received 70% at the beginning of the 2009 season from Olympic judge Stephen Clarke. In May of 2009 Jaimey and Dover had three Grand Prix wins with scores up to 69%. Jaimey also coached FEI Junior student Maura O'Sullivan to the Team Gold medal at the North American Junior Young Rider Championships in Kentucky.

Jaimey has brought numerous horses up to the FEI level that have competed successfully, and he continues to achieve success with many different horses on the highly competitive Florida show circuit and throughout Canada. The Irwins travel to Wellington, Florida for 3 months in the winter for exposure and competitions. The other 9 months of the year they spend in Ontario.

Jaimey also teaches many students who have achieved much success, and teaches clinics in Barbados, Vancouver BC, and throughout Ontario. Jaimey coaches both his wife Tina and her mother Ute Busse, who are both competing successfully at the Grand Prix level and are listed for 2009 and 2010.

Jaimey continues to train with Holger Münstermann who travels to Canada and Florida for regular clinics with the Irwins.

Jaimey's future goals include representing Canada at the World Cup, Olympics, World Equestrian Games.

Tina Busse-Irwin

Hagen, Germany
1981

Tina was born in Hagen Germany and immigrated to Canada after her first birthday with her family. Tina started riding as a young girl with her mother, Canadian Grand Prix Dressage rider Ute Busse. Tina's succesful show career began on the pony Coco, with whom she won many regional and provincial Championships in her junior career.

Tina was a working student for Canadian Olympic rider Evi Strasser, and after graduating high school went to train in Germany with Klaus Martin Rath at Germany's famous Schafhof. She also trained with Holger Münstermann in Werl Germany. Holger continues to be her coach now. Tina has been long and short listed for the Canadian Dressage team since 2003. Her most recent accomplishment is being short listed at the Grand Prix level for 2008 with Amicelli.

Throughout her Young Rider years, Tina has shown four different horses at the FEI Young Rider Level. It wasn't until the year of 2000 that Tina gave up her German citizenship to become a Canadian citizen and compete for Canada. In 2001 Tina represented Canada at the North American Young Riders Championships with Grandetto, a 6 year old Oldenburg gelding. In 2002 Tina competed Amicelli at the NAYRC and was Canada's top placing combination. Tina and Amicelli were recipients of the Dr. Brian Mills award, which is awarded to the top placing Canadian pair at the Championships. The pair also went on to win double silver medals at the Coupe de Americas in Blainville Quebec in the same year.

After Tina's Young Rider years she moved up to the Advanced level and competed Amicelli at the Prix St George and Intermediare 1 level very successfully, receiving top scores and consistently being on the long/short list for the Canadian Dressage Team. At the end of 2005 Tina and Amicelli made their Grand Prix debut. Tina has the great accomplishment of training Amicelli from a 4 year old up to the Grand Prix level, making him her first Grand Prix horse. In 2005 Tina married her husband, Jaimey Irwin with whom she runs their successful Dressage training and sales business together, Stoney Lake Equestrian.

Tina competed Taenzerin, a talented 12 year old Trakhener mare in 2006 at the Prix St George and Intermediare 1 level winning with up to 70% and also winning Advanced Championships. Amicelli and Tina declared for the World Cup in the same year. Tina and Amicelli were 2006 Ontario Reserve Champions at the Grand Prix level.

Amicelli and Tina continued to achieve great success at the Grand Prix level Nationally and also Internationally, competing throughout Canada and the USA at large CDI competitions. They also competed on the prestigious Wellington Florida show circuit during the winter months of 2007 and 2008. They placed second in the Grand Prix in 2007 at the Paxton Farm CDI, and won the FEI Test of Choice class in Wellington Florida at the Grand Prix in 2007. They have taken part in the Grand Prix Quadrille at the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto with more than 3,000 spectators, and also rode in the Grand Prix Quadrille for the fight against Breast Cancer in Wellington Florida in 2007. Team Canada won the Challenge of the America's which Tina and Amicelli were members of. Amicelli and Tina have been added to the FEI World Ranking list, and have qualified for their USDF Gold medal. Tina also competed Querida at the Prix St George level in 2007, a 10 year old Oldenburg mare with much talent for the Grand Prix.

In 2007 Tina was the chef d'equipe for the Gold medal winning Canadian Junior Team at the NAJYRC in Lexington Virginia. 2008 sees this pair competing for a spot on the Canadian Olympic Team, having declared for the Beijing Olympics. A new Equine TV show featured Tina on their hit series "Equi Stars" in the Spring of 2008 in Florida, which premiered on the USA Sports channel CSS.

In 2008 Tina continued with an impressive list of accomplishments, including riding Amicelli to the win of both the Grand Prix and Grand Prix Freestyle at the Blainville CDI (a World Cup Qualifier!) The duo also placed 5th in the Grand Prix at the prestigious Dressage at Devon CDI and placed 7th in the Grand Prix Freestyle. Later that year Tina and Amicelli made their Royal Winter Fair debut in the CDI. They are short listed at the Grand Prix level for both 2008 and 2009.

In 2009, Tina was invited to compete at the World Dressage Masters CDI 5* held in Wellington Florida in January. Only two Canadians were invited to represent their country at this invitation-only competition. This was the first time that this large competition has taken place in North America and top riders from around the world were competing, including Anky van Grunsven, Steffen Peters, Edward Gal, and Hans Peter Minderhoud. In February 2009 Tina and Amicelli placed 4th in the Wellington Spring Classic CDI in both the Grand Prix and the Grand Prix Freestyle.

Dressage Canada named Tina their Red Scarf Athlete of the Month for April 2009, and featured Tina and Amicelli in the Dressage Canada calendar for 2010. The duo rounded out their 2009 season with a second place finish in the Grand Prix Freestyle in the Saugerties New York CDI. Tina and Amicelli are short listed at the Grand Prix level for 2009 and 2010.

Also in 2009 Tina coached FEI Junior student Maura O'Sullivan to the Team Gold medal at the NAJYRC in Kentucky!

Tina's future goals include representing her country at the World Cup, World Equestrian Games and the Olympics.

As listed riders, both Jaimey and Tina have been invited to participate in the series of clinics with top International Trainers, sponsored by Dressage Canada. They also continue to bring in their trainer Holger Münstermann from Germany for regular clinics.

Stoney Lake Equestrian has a blossoming Junior and Young Rider Program with many up-and-coming Juniors and Young Riders. Being former Young Riders themselves, Tina and Jaimey can value and relate to their students, and have the experience and knowledge to bring them to their full potential!
